The Washington County Sheriff’s Office wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Independence Day. As friends and families gather to celebrate, we encourage everyone to make safety a priority.
If your celebration includes fireworks, always follow local laws and use them responsibly. Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby, never allow young children to handle fireworks, and never relight fireworks that fail to ignite.
If you’re traveling, buckle up, obey speed limits, and stay alert for increased traffic, pedestrians, and bicyclists. If you plan to drink alcohol, designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or arrange a safe ride home. Never drive impaired.
Remember that loud fireworks can be stressful for pets. Keep animals indoors in a secure, comfortable area, and ensure they have updated identification in case they become frightened and escape.
Finally, be mindful of your neighbors by cleaning up fireworks debris and respecting local ordinances regarding fireworks and noise.
From all of us at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, have a fun, safe, and happy Fourth of July!
