The Washing County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a fraudulent notice currently being shared via text, email, and mail that claims to be from the State of Nebraska / Douglas County Court – Traffic Division.

These notices may look official and include alarming language such as:
- “Final Enforcement Notice”
- “Court-Ordered Compliance Required”
- Threats of license suspension, fines, or legal action
- A QR code or link to make immediate payment
This notice is a SCAM.
How to Spot the Scam
- Requests for immediate payment via QR code or online link
- Threats of urgent legal consequences without proper court process
- Generic or inconsistent case details
- Messages sent via unsolicited text or email
- Pressure to act quickly without verification
What You Should NOT Do
- Do not scan QR codes or click any links
- Do not provide personal or financial information
- Do not send payment
What You SHOULD Do
- Delete the message or discard the notice
- If you’re concerned about a legitimate citation, contact the court directly using official contact information
- Report the scam to local authorities
